What Makes Our Teacher Retreats Unique?

Our retreats are more than a pause from the school year. They combine professional development, cultural depth, and real time to recharge in the French Caribbean.

Martinique and Guadeloupe are part of France, yet they are often absent from the way students imagine French culture. Our retreats help educators explore these islands as French and Caribbean spaces, shaped by their own histories, languages, landscapes, arts, and everyday realities.

Participants may also earn professional learning credit through our partnership with LinguaHQ, a Texas Education Agency Approved CPE Provider. Our Martinique Teacher Retreat offers up to 48 hours of professional learning through field experiences, academic sessions, workshops, and Teacher Labs.

France beyond the usual clichés

Step into Martinique and Guadeloupe as essential parts of la francophonie, far beyond the familiar Paris-centered references.

Culture, history, and memory

Classroom-ready inspiration

Local voices

Guadeloupe : Coming in June 2028

Our next Teacher Retreat is in development for June 2028 and will take French teachers to the islands of Guadeloupe.

This future program will explore the Guadeloupe archipelago as another part of France in the Caribbean, shaped by its histories, landscapes, Creole language, music, foodways, local education, island geography, and literary voices.

From Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre to Marie-Galante and Les Saintes, participants will discover how each island brings its own perspective. Les Saintes, known for one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and Marie-Galante, with its rural heritage, sugarcane landscapes, and strong cultural identity, will offer rich entry points for understanding the French Caribbean with more texture and accuracy.

The retreat will also highlight Guadeloupe’s literary and intellectual presence, including figures such as Maryse Condé, whose work opens powerful conversations around memory, identity, colonial history, family, language, and belonging.

This program will help educators show students that France is not only the Hexagon. It is also Caribbean, multilingual, and deeply shaped by local histories and cultural practices.

Questions Teachers Often Ask

Is this retreat only for French teachers?

The retreat is designed primarily for French teachers and World Language educators. It may also be relevant for curriculum leaders, department chairs, university instructors, and educators interested in the French Caribbean, Francophone studies, and culturally grounded language teaching.

Do I need to already know a lot about Martinique or Guadeloupe?

No. The retreat is built to give participants the cultural, historical, and classroom context they need. You do not need to be an expert in the French Caribbean before joining.

What language is the retreat conducted in?

Most guided visits, workshops, and local conversations are conducted in French. This is intentional, since the retreat is designed for French teachers who want to strengthen their own language practice while engaging directly with local voices.

Some orientation, logistics, Teacher Lab discussions, and support may be provided in English when helpful. Participants should feel comfortable following visits and conversations in French.

Will I receive professional learning credit?

Yes. Participants in the Martinique Teacher Retreat may earn up to 48 hours of professional learning through LinguaHQ, a Texas Education Agency Approved CPE Provider.

Participants receive documentation of completed hours at the end of the retreat.

Can I register if I am traveling alone?

Yes. Many teachers register individually.

If you choose double occupancy and are not registering with a roommate, we will match you with another participant of the same gender whenever possible. Roommate matching depends on availability and registration timing. If we are unable to match you, we will contact you to discuss available options.

What is included in the package?

All packages include the same 10-day Teacher Retreat experience. Pricing varies by room occupancy only.

The retreat includes 9 nights at a beachfront 3-star hotel, daily breakfast and dinner, most lunches during scheduled program days, local transportation for planned activities, guided visits, workshops, Teacher Labs, professional learning credit, and on-site support.

Is this more academic or more restorative?

Both. The retreat includes structured professional learning, guided visits, workshops, and Teacher Labs, but also time to rest, reflect, enjoy the setting, and reconnect with why you teach.

Will I leave with materials I can use in class?

Yes. Teacher Labs are designed to help participants turn the experience into classroom-ready ideas, questions, resources, and activities.
